How to Have a Relationship with Christ
How to Have a Relationship with Christ
What is the way for us to have a relationship with God? Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me”.
John 14:6
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
“For unless you believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins”
John 8:24
24 I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.
The apostle Peter added these words, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”
Acts 4:12
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Early people who put their faith and trust in Jesus were called “Followers of the Way” and then in Antioch the believers were called Christians. This term is still used today.
I am a Christian, and I will tell you how I became a Christian and how you can become a Christian.
How, I became a Christian?
First, as a young person I realized that I was a sinner, and I needed a savior. You might ask why did you need a savior? The easiest way to answer this is tell you what the Bible says.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” We are all sinners, you, me, everyone. This is displeasing to a Holy God, and no one is innocent. That is a big problem for all of us.
So, if sin is displeasing to God what does the Bible say the consequences are? Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The consequence of sin is not only a physical death, but an eternity death.
The Gift That God Has Given Us
So, the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Did you get that last part of verse 8, Christ died for us!! Christ died for our sins when He died on the cross shedding His blood. This paid the price of sin in God’s eyes. Notice that it says while we were still sinners. So, that means when I accepted Christ, I was a sinner. Christ died on the cross for sinners. That is all of us, that includes you, and me.
The Bible reads in Romans 10:9 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you can be saved.” This is simple and there is no special formula you must do. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and all that a person needs to do is believe in Him. Trusting that His death on the cross paid the payment for our sins. When we do this, we will be saved! Saved is a term that Christians use, it means, (we are saved from the punishment of our sins).
The Bible also gives us another verse 10:13, “for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Salvation is available to everyone who will trust in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
The decision is yours; will you put your trust in Jesus Christ and have a relationship with Him daily?
Have you decided to put your faith and trust in what Jesus Christ did on the cross? If so, then say this simple prayer often referred to as the sinner’s prayer.
It is important to note that it is not the prayer that saves. It is the faith and repentance you have in our heart that lays the foundation of our salvation.
This is an example of the sinner's prayer that can help you communicate with God that you repent of your sin, accept His forgiveness, and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Prayer Asking God for Salvation
Lord, I admit I am a sinner. I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death as the penalty for my sin and recognize that Your mercy and grace is a gift You offer to me because of Your great love, not on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith I receive You into my heart as the Son of God and as Savior and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for You, with You in control. In Your precious name, Amen
