God – Confidence vs Self - Confidence

We all have had some level of self-confidence, but we all can probably say that there have been times that we have failed (Hand up). Human history tells us this repeatedly. Man is fallible. The bible also points this out that man is fallible.

One of the favorite bible stories is of the life of King David. He was a man that had areas of his life that he failed. He was a man that fled for his life as King Saul tried to kill him. He was also a man that showed some character flaws when he committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed to try and cover his sin.

David, despite his flaws found favor from God. The main reason God loved David so much had nothing to do with his hair or his harp; it was all about his heart. For in God's eyes, the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. During David’s life, he never worshiped other God’s like many of Israel’s kings did.

David put his confidence in God instead of himself. David wrote, "When my heart faints, lead me to the rock that is higher than I"

Psalm 61:2

2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I

We too can have confidence in God when we give our heart to Him. What a difference that makes in our life when God is our Rock. When we put our faith and trust in God instead of our self we can’t fail.
