Peace in the Midst of Trials

A coworker once asked me, why I didn’t seem to worry about issues at work. I told him that God was in control of whatever I was dealing with. That is difficult for many people to grasp. All believers can have that same feeling of peace when you realize God is in control of the situation.

Once we become a Christian it doesn’t mean we won’t face trials. Just the opposite, the bible clearly says we can expect trials and tribulations in our lives.

I am in 100% agreement over the fact that if we aren’t in a trial now, one is coming down the road. God uses trials to test our faith and when our faith is tested it will be strengthened.

1 Peter 4:12-13

12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice in as much as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

We can expect trials on a regular basis; The bible teaches us not to worry about our trials. If you think about it. God tells us in Philippians 4 not to worry about our trials, but to take our trials to Him in prayer. Once we take it to God, we will receive His peace. When we take our trials to God in prayer, we are taking it to a Sovereign God who orchestrates the events of our life and is in control.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

This verse should give us great comfort. It doesn’t mean we won’t be concerned about events in our life, but it does tell us, we are not to worry about them. There is a difference between being concerned and being worried. When we turn it over to God, we can rest easy knowing, He is in control.
