Albin Family A Family of Patriots

Darrell’s 5th Great Grandfather Robert Albin (1743-1814) served in the War of 1812.

Darrell 7th Great Grandfather was age 69 when he served for the US in the War of 1812. Records show he was in a Company of SPIES with rank as a PRIVATE. He died at the age of 71 in Winchester, Frederick, Virginia.

Robert Albin came from a patriotic family. His father was my 8th Great Grandfather.


Darrell’s 6th Great Grandfather William Wilkinson Albin (1717–1765)


William was the father of Robert Albin and had 4 sons that fought in the Revolutionary War.

William was the son of Robert Albin and Sarah Cansey, also from Ireland and they are buried there. William was an orphan and only five years of age when he came to this country. He was raised in Chester Co., PA and when about 21 years old he went to Virginia with two of his cousins. Estimated time was 1739. He was married in 1744 to Mary Bruce, who was born in Scotland and Christened June 3, 1715 at Portsoy, Fordyce Parish, Banff, Scotland. She was brought to this country at the age of 9, lived in PA and also moved to Virginia where she met William.

The sons of William Wilkinson Albin fought in the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War and War of 1812.

  • Sgt John Albin (1740 – 1820) - John served in the French and Indian War in 1758 under Col. Wm. Byrd in the 2nd Virginia Regiment and in Capt. Hancock Eustace’s Company when Gen James captured Fort Duquesne. John also served in the Revolutionary War.

  • George Albin – (1756-1840) Served in Revolutionary War, Tombstone says, he was General George Washington’s bodyguard and was wounded in action.

  • James Albin (1758-1827) James served in the Revolutionary War, in the 7'th and 8'th regiment.

  • William Bruce Albin Jr. (1748-1796) Served as an Ensign in the Rev. War with the Rangers of the Frontier from Westmoreland, PA.
