Wives and Husbands how are we treating each other?
Updated: Jul 24
How is the relationship with your spouse going? Marriages today can have a lot of stress that can lead to friction within the marriage. I am not here to blame the husband or the wife. I just want to point out a few things that can help in a marriage. I am not a counselor; my only credentials are that I have been married for a long time and I have tried to follow the bible on how to treat my wife. I want to share a few things that have helped my wife and I make it. Are we perfect? Ha!!! by no means. We are different people with different likes, dislikes and like all marriages we have had some tension over the years, but we have worked through them.
I have been to a couple of marriage seminars when I was younger, and to be honest I felt they had missed the mark for me. They were on good topics, love, communication, boundaries, but getting into small groups and talking about personal things did not work for me. As you are probably aware, guys don’t like to share our feelings that easily.
Our life is all about relationships, and who better to follow than Jesus Christ for an example of relationships. In my life, I have found that the first thing I need to do is take care of my relationship with Jesus Christ before working on other relationships. If my relationship is right with Jesus Christ, then this will influence all of my relationships. I will be a better husband. Relationships must be nurtured; my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ must be nurtured. I do this by spending time with Jesus. I do this by spending time in His Word studying it and applying the teaching of Jesus Christ into practical life applications. The next thing I need to do is talk with Jesus and I do this by praying. Just like the relationship with my spouse we grow closer by nurturing the relationships between each other. Same thing with Jesus Christ, the more time you spend with Him the closer you will be with Him.
Men, the bible is very clear on how we are supposed to love our wives? The bible says in Galatians that we are to love our wives as Christ loved the church. Men, Christ loved the church so much that He died for the church. This is good starting point men. Now wives, Galatians also shows how you should treat your husband.
Ephesians 5: 22 - 28
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
