Passover and Last Supper on Maundy Thursday
Updated: Apr 8
Thursday of Holy week referred to as Maundy Thursday. As I write this the sun is sinking in the west. I was wondering what Jesus and His Disciples were doing at this time. Had they made it to the Upper Room yet? We know that after sunset, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples as they prepared to share the Passover.
I am sure we all have seen the picture of the Passover. My first bible I received as a child had the famous picture of the Passover. The disciples did not realize that soon Jesus would be handed over to be crucified.
Luke 22:19-20 (NIV)
19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
The rest of the evening is hard to imagine what Jesus endured. He endured the trial, the crucifixion, death, and burial on Good Friday. He endured all this to pay the cost of our sins. We have so much to be grateful.
This weekend just reflect on what our Christ went through for each one of us.
John 3:16 (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
