“Make Peace with The Past”
Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)
“13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
When you can forgive those that have done things to you in the past you can look to the future with optimism and hope. Has anyone ever said anything that hurt your feelings? People can be mean and ruthless with their tongues and sometimes they don’t realize it. There are probably many of you that know families that are divided and not talking to each other because of something someone has said. The same thing can happen at work, with friends, or even in church.
These things can churn inside of you so much that it can steal your inner peace and damage a relationship if you allow it. The key is don’t allow it, sometimes we might need help and God is there to help us. Here is a method that works. Tell God what you’re feeling and that you don’t want to feel that hurt. Ask Him to help you forgive and forget. Then reach out to that person and check to see how they are doing. Been married over 41 years, and I know many of you have been married longer. It works.
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
God intends for us to live a life full of peace and joy. Don’t let the past steal it, make peace with it.
