Do You Have a New Year’s Traditional Meal?

Updated: Dec 30, 2023

Terri and I have our traditional New Year meal supplies ready. This has been passed down from my parents. I can remember waking up as a kid on New Year's morning and my mom had great white Northern beans, cooked cabbage, and cornbread ready. We have added another item here in Texas, Black Eye peas. So, in the pantry we have our great norther beans, black eye peas, cornbread, and in the refrigerator, we have our left-over Christmas ham bone and a head of cabbage ready for tomorrow morning.

Black eye peas in the south are supposed to give you good luck for the new year. (Started this when we moved to Texas)

Great Northern Beans with diced up ham is supposed to give you good luck for the new year. (My parents had this.)

Cooked cabbage is supposed to bring you prosperity for the new year.

Cornbread is supposed to bring you spending money for the new year.

Do any of you have any traditional meals for New Year’s Day?

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
