Balance in Life

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Life is a delicate balancing act, of walking a fine line of being over-committed with so many things that seem important. It is easy to fall prey to pride when you end up trying to do too much. It is also easy to be fearful and end up doing too little. The question is what is the right balance to where you are not doing too much or too little?

John 10:10 (ESV)

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

We are more likely to live the abundant life that Christ wants for us when we live a balanced life. If we listen to God’s instructions, He will lead us to live a life that is more balanced. One that is right for you and your loved ones.

Dennis Swanberg writes. “That there is no evidence that complexity and materialism leads to happiness. On the contrary, there is plenty of evidence that simplicity and spirituality lead to joy, a blessedness that is better than happiness”.

Slow down and spend time with the Lord, spend more time with your family. Take a walk with someone you love. Read a story to a young child. As you all know your family grows up quickly, your kids grow up and then your grandkids grow up fast. Spouses will eventually pass away. Life is simply too short to spend it on things that don’t matter. Value a life that is simple and one that puts your trust in God.

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
